Southwest Museum

Southwest Museum Rehabilitation: Conceptual Design

The Southwest Museum, designed over 100 years ago by the seminal LA architecture firm of Sumner Hunt, is Los Angeles’s first museum. The National Register listed museum has been closed for over 10 years and its future is unclear. Working side by side with the community, the design team re-imagines a fully restored and expanded Southwest Museum with new exhibition space, lecture hall, education center, improved site circulation, museum store, restaurant/café on the South terrace with sweeping views from Downtown LA across the Arroyo and up to the San Gabriel Mountains. With PLUM Architects.
